Telecom Clicking GE

This blog focuses on the web based application for Telecom industry that binds the tools of Mapinfo into Google Earth and resolves the problems faced by Telecom engineers in RF Frequency & Neighbor Planning (Called Cell Planning) by overcoming the limitations posed by Mapinfo.

Mapinfo is the most widely used software in telecom. It plots the sites of the network in its window and has tools that display the frequencies assigned to the cells of site, and the adjacencies (neighbors for Handovers) created in the database. This allows the engineers to plan and audit the Radio Network of cellular system.

They also use Google Earth for updated geographical info. As Mapinfo tools for displaying frequency/adjacency are not portable in GE, the engineer constantly switches between Mapinfo & GE.

Our product integrates the benefits of desktop application Mapinfo into web application Google Earth, while resolving the problems in usage of Mapinfo. Our product displays height of site, hence allowing faster & efficient plan and audit of Cellular Network.

The operation of cellular companies heavily depends on efficient cell planning. These companies spend huge money on software for Cell planning. MapInfo is the most essential software used in RF Planning & Optimization. MapInfo has two major shortcomings in its toolset for cellular systems:

It can’t plot 3D images i.e: height of sites can’t be shown in it. Since height plays a vital role in Cell planning, RF engineer is forced to switch between Mapinfo & Google Earth.

MapInfo lacks updated GIS plots. Usually operators have scanned maps of area they are working on, but those maps are neither updated frequently nor as precise as Google Earth.

Our product resolves both the issues in Mapinfo & brings the benefits of web application.
